Sometimes after a long week at work or weekends reserved for celebrating special occasions with family, it’s hard to find the time (and energy) to get all those home improvement projects done. Here’s how to find the time:
Relax & Make a List
After dinner, sit down with a cup of tea and record all the updates you would like to do to improve the value and appearance of your property. Take it step by step, bit by bit, so that you feel in control and the tasks seem manageable.
Sleep on it & Plan
The next step is to evaluate your list. After a good night’s rest, take your list to work on over your lunch hour.
Mark the items you can do yourself (like cleaning up the landscaping), and which items are best done by experts (like installing new vinyl windows). Also evaluate the time required for each activity. Can you do some of them in a matter of hours or over a weekend? Can you split up the projects into hour-long segments that can be done in the long summer evenings between dinner and family time? Or better yet, get the family involved in the chores that are appropriate for each one’s abilities.
Take Your Best Friend on a Shopping Trip
You’re ready to tackle the first task, but unless you have everything you need, you’ve got some advance preparation to do. Call up your best buddy (or spouse!) and ask them to accompany you on an outing.
Determine the supplies and equipment you need, such as work gloves for everyone, lawn fertilizer, or paint.
Start Small
Beginning with simpler projects, start checking them off your list. You’ll be encouraged when you begin seeing success. By doing the simpler ones first, you’ll see results quicker. If you have kids, it is a great time to teach them how to best tackle home maintenance and improvement tasks.
Home improvement upgrades usually offer immediate visual results, so as you complete each one, you can stand back and admire the progress you’re making.
Sit back – and Make a Phone Call
For some home upgrades, you might utilize your time and resources best by calling in a local contracting team.
Based on your own expertise and your access to proper tools and equipment, you can determine which projects you would like to pass off to a local professional.
